100-0032_IMG

Task 4, one thermal from Borah, there's about 20 speck sized gliders in front of me if you squint. Got up from the leading edge of the cloud shadow.

100-0033_IMG

same as the last shot

100-0034_IMG

Looking crosswind to the south, the sensible course to avoid mai hai valley, I didnt go that way.

100-0035_IMG

fuzzy shot of the canyon after i climbed out

canyon

A shot of the mai hai? valley, bad place to land, and in the distance rainstorms (or cumulus congestus according to godfrey over Mt Kaputar.

100-0037_IMG

another shot of the rain on Mt Kaputar, I skirted round the edge of the cloud, then dipped under a little heading for a sunny patch on the ground and got nailed by sink. 50km, half way to goal.

100-0038_IMG

View along the courseline after crossing the canyon, looks good, bitumen road and plenty of sun, how did I not make it? I landed in the plowed field in the middle of the pic, 1200fpm sink.

canyon2

looking back at my path across the my hy valley, I got a zero on the last green field at about 500ft agl, top left of the picture, and sort of scraped over the valley lip in it, immediately lost it, but got a good climb off one of the forested spurs. The guy with me a few feet below flew straight across and landed in those little fields in the bottom. Justin said he saw a bunch of gliders who went round ridge soar in along the cliffs in the middle of the pic.

kaputarstorm

Task 4- Mt kaputar storm, nothing to worry about we were told, just north of the course line.

100-0041_IMG

Task 4 - another view of my clear run to goal, where I didnt make it

100-0042_IMG

task 4 - final glidish, with map

100-0043_IMG

Task 5, The farm Justin landed on running from rain, you can see the rocketship cumulus clouds behind. I didn't take any photos in the air this day, I was first to launch, first to base, and first to deck out on course.

bus

The rain brought a lot of people down on task 5 and we filled up the bus.

100-0045_IMG

Task 6, sunshine, nice clouds, and a bastard of a cross/headwind. This is the first valley crossing east of Borah

100-0046_IMG

Task 6, the range on the other side of the valley running north from Manilla, I tried to get here high and succeeded, getting a thermal off the ridge line.
